Balmoral School Kicks off its Summer Music Program at UIndy.
From June 29-July 2, 2017, at the University of Indianapolis, the Balmoral School runs an intensive summer program for pipers and drummers of all ages. Both beginners and accomplished musicians will immerse themselves in a week of music with some of the best pipers and pipe band drummers in the world.
Professional grade piper Nick Hudson is a conservatory-trained musician and graduate of the Bagpipe Performance degree at Carnegie-Mellon University. Nick has won many prizes in solo competition, including 1st Gold Medal for Piobaireachd at Braemar and 1st Overall at The Livingstone Invitational in 2016.
Jimmy Bell is a Professional grade piper, EUSPBA, SUSPBA judges panels, is director and principal instructor of the Scottish Heritage Program, is a past Pipe Major of Parlin and District Grade 1 Pipe Band and current Pipe Major of the Lyon College Pipe Band.
“The instructors at Indianapolis bring to the session keen abilities to show others how to succeed in music,” says George Balderose, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Balmoral. “All are incredibly knowledgeable, are currently judging and performing, and are eager to help students get to the next level. They very much enjoy what they do.”
Drumming instructor, Gordon Bell, a EUSPBA Overall Champion from 1979-1987, has over 30 years experience instructing drummers. Bell is a veteran of many top Grade One Pipe Bands.
“Drummers, join us for an exciting week of learning and hard work,” says drumming instructor Gordon Bell. “Classes, band work and even a fanfare to expand your skills! Chances are, we’ll even convince a few pipers to join our ranks. See you there!”
Students, both individuals and pipe bands, will receive instruction on the Great Highland pipes, Scottish smallpipes, snare, tenor drum and bass drum, in small classes of three or less, while making friendships that last a lifetime.
There will be a free instructors’ concert on Thursday evening.
