Bagpipe Music at Summer Strings

George Balderose, Director of the Balmoral School, teaches bagpipe music at Summer Strings.

From June 19-23, 2017, Balmoral School Director George Balderose taught over 60 young musicians in attendance at the 2017 Carnegie Mellon University Summer Strings Program, an annual event for 10-16 year old students of the violin, viola, cello, and bass. The students received instruction on the history and fundamentals of Scottish bagpipe music and the playing of Scottish bagpipe tunes on their instruments, using a Lowland bagpipe for demonstration purposes. The week also included an instructors’ recital on Monday and a Friday afternoon concert featuring faculty  performing with students.
