ANNOUNCING THE 2017 BALMORAL CLASSIC COMPETITION!
The Balmoral School’s Championships for Young Pipers and Drummers

On November 18, 2017, the 11th annual Balmoral Classic, the US Junior Solo Bagpiping and Solo Snare Drumming Championships, will take place in in Pittsburgh, PA. The competition, for entrants 21 years of age or younger, is part of a weekend-long celebration of Highland bagpiping and drumming held annually in Pittsburgh.

Bagpiping competitors compete in two styles: Pìobaireachd and MSR (march, strathspey, and reel), the traditional bagpipe competition medley. Drumming entrants compete in two styles: Hornpipe & Jig and MSR. The Overall is a combination of scores from Pìobaireachd and MSR for piping, and Hornpipe & Jig and MSR for drumming.  Previous 1st place winners of the US Junior Solo Championships are not eligible to compete. Medals, scholarships and additional prizes will be awarded to the first five places in each Piping and Drumming event.

Highlights of the weekend include a Friday night Gathering and a Saturday night concert, featuring Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas. For additional information about the weekend events, call 412-323-2707.
